What is Art Therapy??
Art Therapy
While making art and engaging in creative pursuits is undoubtedly therapeutic, Art Therapy is so much more. It is a form of psychotherapy that helps one express what sometimes is difficult to with words. Art Therapy is a process that helps people tap into their subconscious and unlock their innate wisdom. It helps to bypass the thinking and at times critical mind, and access parts of ourselves that may have been lost or that are longing for expression. It is a useful tool in therapy to help you understand yourself more deeply and a wonderful tool for healing.
I offer many different processes and materials for Art Therapy including working with clay, mixed media, paint, charcoal, collage and textiles as well as incorporating foraged elements from nature.
Art Therapy is not about creating a masterpiece. It is more about the journey and the process than the outcome.
Nature Based Art Therapy
Connection to Nature is a useful tool for grounding and healing and some of my Art Therapy processes are Nature Based. Developing a connection to land and nature is a powerful medicine our ancestors knew only too well. Developing this connection builds our own capacity for healing as well as our connection to ourselves, one another and the world at large.
